Customized madison II with white siding and black roof, windows and hayloft door.

A Custom Madison II with Bold Finishes & Five Bedrooms

Black cabinetry, warm wood accents, and a five-bedroom layout give this Madison II its own personality. Built on the homeowners’ land in Central Ohio, it shows how a familiar floor plan can be customized to fit the people who call it home.

Come On In

White siding, black exterior windows, and cedar-wrapped porch posts set the tone before you step inside. The homeowners selected composite decking for the front porch and extended the second-story entry forward, adding windows above the front door.

Inside, the two-story entry and family room preserve one of the Madison II’s signature features: an open view between floors. Wood balusters and black metal spindles carry the exterior’s mix of warm wood and black accents into the home.

Two Islands, a Bigger Dinette, and a Bold Finish

Why stop at one island? These homeowners reworked the standard Madison II kitchen to include two—one with the sink and space for prep, and another with seating along the family-room side. The arrangement adds countertop space and storage while keeping the kitchen connected to the room next door.

They also added a bump-out at the back of the home to enlarge the dinette. Windows on three sides bring in natural light and views of their land, with more room around the table.

Then came the finishes. Riceland Black cabinetry carries across both islands, the perimeter cabinets, and the custom wood range hood. Granite countertops, Golden Champagne pulls, and warm wood-look flooring balance the bold color, while a decorative wood beam frames the opening to the family room.

A microwave built into the island and rollout trays in a base cabinet round out a kitchen customized well beyond the paint color.

A Pocket Office and Room to Get Organized

At the front of the home, the revised layout pairs a pocket office with a large pantry. The office offers a separate spot for work or paperwork, while the pantry keeps kitchen essentials close by and tucked away.

The mudroom connects the kitchen to the three-car garage, with the laundry room and powder room nearby. It’s a practical arrangement for coming home with groceries, dropping off shoes, and getting laundry where it needs to go.

A First-Floor Owner’s Suite with a Bold Bathroom

The owner’s suite stays on the first floor, with a walk-in closet and a bathroom that continues the home’s black-and-white palette.

The custom tile shower measures six feet wide by four feet deep, with glossy black wall tile extending to the ceiling. Two matte black showerheads sit at opposite ends, each with its own control, and clear glass doors keep the tile in view.

Black vanity cabinetry ties the room back to the kitchen. Between the two sinks, a tall countertop cabinet adds storage without extending the vanity’s footprint.

Five Bedrooms, with a Revised Upstairs Layout

The homeowners enclosed the standard Madison II’s loft to create an additional bedroom. That brings this home to four bedrooms upstairs and five overall, including the first-floor owner’s suite.

The second floor also includes a shared hall bathroom and an open railing overlooking the two-story family room and entry below.

Turning the loft into a bedroom gave these homeowners the extra sleeping space they wanted while keeping the family room open above.
